“What I want in my life is compassion, a flow between myself and others based on a mutual giving from the heart”. -Marshall B.Roseberg (NVC:A language of life)
Non-Violent Communication is based on the principles of non-violence. It is centered on the assumption that we are all compassionate by nature sharing the same basic human needs and that each of our action is a strategy to meet one or more of these needs. This was wonderfully explained in a workshop conducted on Friday, 25th March for the Primary Block teachers by Ms. Sudha Shankar, CNVC-Certified NVC trainer, Hypnotherapist & Editor. The school fosters the skills of creativity, communication, collaboration and character building and the workshop resonated the same principles.
It was a simple yet powerfully transformative session encompassing three main pillars of human behaviour-Intention, attention and self-expression. Ms. Shankar explained that observation without evaluation is the highest form of human intelligence. It was a justly engaging session as the teachers participated in interesting, thought-provoking activities which helped many connect to their inner-self in a truly expressive manner and left all spellbound to the effect. It helped all understand that by blaming and by being judgemental, we only restrict the deep pleasures of contributing to each other’s well-being. The workshop proved to be an eye-opener and helped the teachers reflect and relate better. Non-violence is a form of consciousness where the other person’s humanity becomes visible and we must try to negotiate willingly and joyfully to meet our needs keeping the respect factor in mind.
